The Central Christian College of Kansas Phi Beta Lambda business club attended the 75th Annual Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL) National Leadership Convention in Anaheim, California. The event was held June 23-27, 2017 at the Anaheim Hilton Hotel.  Nearly 2000 college students, advisors and professional members from hundreds of colleges/universities/community colleges from across the U.S. were in attendance for workshops, national and regional officer elections and national competitions in events such as: Accounting, Economics, Human Resources, Marketing, Management, Statistics, etc.  There were a total of 61 individual and team competitive events.

Eight Central students (Trevor Dahl, JP Ray, Chris Rigby, Jody Bohnenblust, Elizabeth Caron, Priscilla Castillo, Tara Kemp, and Meghan Morey) competed in eleven different events under the advisory leadership of Dr. David Ferrell, Central business chair and retired Central PBL advisor, Jerry Fithian. These students advanced to the final round of 15 competitors in nine of the 11 events and placing in the top 10 in the country in seven of the events.  The seven events in which Central students placed nationally are listed here along with their placement and approximate number of competitors:

“Central has participated in Phi Beta Lambda for over 50 years – sending qualifying students to national competition for many of those years.  This year represents the best results we have had thus far in our PBL program and so we are very proud of our students,” says Dr. David Ferrell, “This helps to validate the excellent work they are doing in their respective fields of business, the concepts and principles they are learning and the ability they have to apply these concepts to the real world.”

Institutions in attendance at the 2017 FBLA-PBL National Leadership Conference include: the University of Illinois, Peru State College, William Baptist College, University of Maryland, George Mason University, Florida Atlantic University, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, State University of New York, Florida International University, Southeast Missouri State University, University of Missouri–Columbia, Rutgers University, University of Utah, University of TX-Dallas, Illinois State University, Hannibal-LaGrange University, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, etc.  The colleges and universities represented from Kansas – besides Central – include: Sterling College, Emporia State University, Ft.
